William Edward Carter, 77, of Marine, Ill., born May 5, 1931, in St. Jacob, Ill., died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at St. Louis University Medical Center.
Mr. Carter, who spent most of his life in and around St. Jacob, Ill., was a stone mason, who worked in construction. He owned and operated several bars, the last being the Driftwood Inn in Marine, Ill. He was a 40 year member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge 1561.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin L. and Laura, nee Frey, Carter; brother, Melvin Carter; and sisters, Wanda and Vera Carter.
Surviving are his son, Wayne (Peggy) Carter of Chesterton, Ind.; grandchildren, Candice Jones, Matthew and Mark Carter; great-grandchildren, Jordan Carter and Brandon Jones; aunt and uncle, Edith (Morris) Aemifegger of St. Jacob, Ill., and Lila Huber of Highland, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the Moose Lodge or Keystone Cemetery in St. Jacob, Ill., and will be received at the funeral home.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home in St. Jacob, Ill.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Kniepkamp officiating. Interment will be in Keystone Cemetery in St. Jacob, Ill.
