Thomas (Tom) Michael Schmitt, 72, a life-long resident of Troy, IL, was born Sunday , October 14,
1951 at home in Troy and passed away on October 10, 2024 of natural causes, at his
home under the care of his loving family following a lengthy decline in health.
Tom was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Troy, IL graduating from St. Paul's
Lutheran School in 1965 and Triad High School in 1969. Enlisting in the United States
Army, Tom served as a diesel mechanic in Germany during the Vietnam era for the US
armed forces and was honorably discharged in 1974. Tom then attended and graduated
from the Ranken Technical program in automotive mechanics. Fixing things became
Tom's talent and passion and he progressed through a series of positions to include
home building, automotive repair, major appliance repair, garage door repairs until he
created and opened his own small business Tom's Troy Garage Door serving the
people of Troy and surrounding area.
Beside his family, Tom loved to tinker on his project vehicles, have fish fries and bar-b-
ques, go hunting, fishing and enjoy of company of life-long friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Jean (nee Schmitt) Ponce, parents
Harold and Lynette (nee Wendler) Schmitt, Uncle Robert Schmitt, Aunt Thelma Schmitt,
Uncle Roy Schmitt and Cousin John Schmitt.
Tom is survived by his wife Theresa (Terri) Schmitt; his sons Michael and Andy (Lisa)
Schmitt; his grandchildren Raleigh, Bryley, Jaxon, and Madelyn; his Aunt Ruth Schmitt;
cousins Karen (Bob) Bowker of Cedar Park, TX; Marcia (Bill) Pridgen of Spring Hill, FL;
Jim (Cassandra) Schmitt of Josephville, MO; Rev David ( Terri ) Schmitt of Bridgeton,
MO; Steve Schmitt of Belleville, IL; Sarah (Steve) Cannedy of Marietta, GA; Sandy
(Paul) Smith of Smyrna, GA; brother-in-law Larry Ponce (Vicki) of Troy, IL; nephew
Nicholas (Dusty) Ponce of Pleasant Plains, IL, and Niece Lindsay (Brandon) Jones of
Sappington, MO.

Visitation for Tom will be held 3 to 6 pm on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL
