Sylvester "Andy" Swillum, 87, of Troy, Ill., born March 11, 1923, in California, Mo., died on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.,
Mr. Swillum was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, Ill., the Knights of Columbus fourth degree council 1758 and K of C council 9266. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, under General Patton. Andy had given 25 years of faithful and dedicated service to St. Jerome's church maintaining the church and church grounds. His trade was metal caster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine, nee Weingartner, Swillum; four brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Martha, nee Liesmann, Swillum; son, Joseph Swillum of Germany; daughters, Mary (Keith) Jones of Troy, Ill., and Catherine Brown of Troy, Ill.; grandchildren, Jacob and Leah Brown Sharon, Andrea, Richard, Brigitta and Eric Jones; adopted son, Bud Klaustermeier of Troy, Ill.; sister-in-law, Martha (Leo) Swillum; many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Jerome Catholic Church.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at the church with Father Pat Jakel officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
