Stanley Joseph Biarkis, 90, formerly of Troy, Ill., born Dec. 13, 1918, in Glen Carbon, Ill., died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Faith Country Side Nursing Home in Highland, Ill.
Mr. Biarkis, was a graduate of Edwardsville High School Class of 1936. He retired as a warehouse manager for H. Reznikoff & Sons, Inc. He had served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, stationed in India and was part of the China Campaign, where he received a Bronze Star.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna, nee Mathuloves, Biarkis; and brothers, John and Charles Biarkis.
Surviving are his wife, Helen L., nee Brueggemann, Biarkis of Highland, Ill., whom he married Oct. 23, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Sandra (Dr. James) Kerr of Troy, Ill.; and grandchildren, Robin and Scott Kerr.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the Alzheimers Association.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home in Troy, Ill.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Interment in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
