Shirley A. Stahlhut, 85, of Troy, Ill., born April 19, 1928 in Pana, Ill., died Monday, April 14, 2014.

Shirley was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Troy, Ill., and a former member for 62 years of Eden United Church of Christ, Edwardsville, Ill., where she was very active. Shirley worked for Portnay Garment Factory, and Western Cartridge Co. She enjoyed farming and all that was a part of farming; canning, meat processing, tending to her chickens and eggs which led to her 50 plus years with the Madison County Homemakers Extension. Shirley was a talented seamstress and devoted homemaker. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards and traveling with her family and friends. She was a devoted mother and care giver for her daughter Cheryl.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford H. Stahlhut, whom she married June 4, 1949 at Eden United Church of Christ, in Edwardsville, Ill.; a grandson, Derek Nungesser; and special friends, Robert Kubicek and Charles Breuer.

Surviving are her children, Cheryl Stahlhut of Edwardsville, Ill., Gary (Sue) Stahlhut of Troy, Ill., and Gayle (Alan) Nungesser of Troy, Ill.; grandchildren, Michelle, Scott and Jennifer Stahlhut and Megan Nungesser; great-grandchildren, Danielle Overby, Randallynn, Eryk and Austin Nungesser; a brother, Donald (Pat) Everman of Foristell, Mo.; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorials may be made to Friedens United Church of Christ, Jarvis Township Senior Center or Glen Carbon Senior Center.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Friedens United Church of Christ, Troy, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at the church with Rev. Douglas Seagle officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville, Ill.
