Sgt. Brian Matthew Gass, beloved husband, father, son and brother, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. Brian was born March 16, 1976 in Granite City, IL. and resided in Troy, IL. with his family.
Brian was a Crew Chief at Scott Air Force Base and worked security at McKendree College. As a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served his country in the Pershing Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie J. (nee Ellsworth) Gass of Troy, IL.; children, Kyle, Jacob and Kaitlynn Gass; parents, Jim and Mary Ellen (nee Zikovich) Gass of Troy, IL.; brother, Jim (Theresa Scott) Gass of Collinsville, IL.; sisters, Emily (Craig) Deterding of St. Jacob, IL. and Monica Gass of Troy, IL.; father and mother in law, Roger and Carol (nee Clinton) Ellsworth of Carlyle, IL.; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Gass Children's Scholarship Fund at Scott Credit Union and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Maryville, IL.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Maryville, IL. with Fr. Stephen Sotiroff officiating.
Full Military Honors will be held with burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
