S. Jeanne (Nix) Harper, 88, of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Evansville, died on October 15, 2015 in St. Louis. Her death resulted from multiple medical complications of dementia. She was born on January 26, 1927, near Patesville, Kentucky.
Jeanne was a loving, creative, and accomplished woman. She was always willing to help a friend learn to crochet or quilt. She took great delight in watching her flower and vegetable gardens bloom and produce. The home she shared with her husband Ray was a natural gathering place for the friends of their children, who were always welcome. Jeanne was a master seamstress, producing beautiful gowns for friends and their children, as well as for her own daughter, to whom she passed on her love of sewing. Jeanne was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she and Ray could be found most Sunday nights cooking meals for the youth fellowship group. After the death of her husband, Jeanne became active in the senior adult ministry at Oak Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling with them.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Harper, daughter-in-law, Sharyl (Clark) Harper, and grandson, James Daniel Harper. She is survived by her son C. Ray Harper of Newburgh, and her daughter, E. Jeanne Harper of St. Louis, MO. In addition, Jeanne is survived by two grandchildren, a granddaughter-in-law, and six great-grandchildren, all of Evansville: grandson Chuck and his wife, Tiffany Harper, and their children Madyson and Reece Harper; granddaughter Rachel and her husband, Kevin Schuble, and their children, Kendra (Schuble) Randolph, and Kody, Jada, and Brea Schuble; and granddaughter-in-law Bethany Harper. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Fran Harper of Montgomery Alabama, and her brother, Randall Nix of Winterhaven Florida.
A memorial service will take place at 1:30 PM on Friday October 23, 2015 at Mother of Good Counsel Home. In lieu of flowers, Jeanne's family request that donations be made to Mother of Good Counsel Home, 6825 Natural Bridge Road, St Louis, MO 63121.
