Troy City Alderman, Rolland "Rollie" Reiss passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Rollie was born July 27, 1931 in Trenton, Illinois to Rolla and Edna Townsend Reiss. He attended schools in Lebanon, Illinois and earned his Associate Degree from SIUE. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was retired from American Steel and was an active civic leader in the City of Troy. Mr. Reiss was currently serving his term as City Alderman. He had formerly served the community as Water, Sewer, & Street Superintendent and as alderman and was active in various committees since 1953, serving under the mayorship of five mayors. He was a dedicated community leader and was known for genuinely having the city of Troy's best interest at heart. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird-watching and traveling with his wife, Selda.
Survivors include his wife, Selda (nee Brendel) Reiss, whom he married October 17, 1953; son Gregory (Sheila) Reiss of Troy; daughter Debbie (Terry) Dachsteiner of Troy; brother Dr. William Reiss of Lafayette, Indiana; sister Shirley (Ben) Nye of Erie, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Kristy, Brian, Charles, Joseph Reiss; four step-grandchildren, Tina Dachsteiner, Terry Dachsteiner, Jr., Jamie Swisher, and Jennifer Wilson; four step great grandchildren, Elizabeth Cole, Michael Wilson, Jr., Ian Johnston, and Brandon Swisher.
Visitation: 4:00 pm, Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Laughlin Funeral Home, Troy, Illinois
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Monsignor Virgil Mank presiding and Father Steven Janoski co-celebrating.
Memorials may be made to the Jarvis Township Senior Citizens Center or in the form of Masses.
Interment: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Highland, Illinois
