Obituary
Mr. Roland E. Koonce, 76, of Troy, Illinois, born March 2, 1929 in Marion, Illinois, died July 12, 2005.
Mr. Koonce was a retired Operating Engineer from Joliet, Illinois. Later he bacame a horse trainer. Mr. Koonce lived in the Troy-Collinsville area since 1978, moving to Troy 22 years ago. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Elgin, Illinois.
Mr. Koonce was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Gladys (nee: Wynn) Koonce, a half-brother Ralph Koonce, and a step-brother Oran Stroud Jr.
Mr. Koonce is survived by his wife, Johanna (nee:Norman) Koonce, whom he married October 4, 1973, one daughter, Mrs. Sandra (Robert) Conoway of Defuniak Springs, Florida, one step-son, Robert Ellis of West Frankfort, Illinois, one step-daughter, Lisa Miller of Troy, Illinois, sisters, Lucille Stroud of Marion, Illinois, Shirley Longman of Jackson, Florida, Phyllis Parks of Belleview, Florida, five grandchildren, Randy, Ronnie and Lauren Conoway, and Kyle and Kelsey Miller.
Visitation: Friends may call at the Laughlin Funeral Home after 4 P.M. on Thursday, July 14, 2005. Funeral Services will be Friday, July 15, 2005 at 1 P.M. at the Funeral Home "Chapel" with Brother Jim Wiens of Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Memorials are to Alzheimers and Dementia Foundation.
