Richard E. Shoemate, U.S. Navy (retired), 81, of Apopka, Fla., born Jan. 7, 1928, in LaHarpe, Ill., died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte, Fla.
Mr. Shoemate lived for many years in St. Jacob, Ill. He retired in 1987 from Conoco Oil Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Willie, nee Garland, Shoemate; sister, Beverly Shoemate; and brother, William Shoemate.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Marie nee Bunting, Shoemate of Apopka, Fla., whom he married on Feb. 4, 1961, in Rockford, Ill.; sons, Thomas Shoemate of Humble, Texas and Steven (Sharon) Shoemate of Blythe, Calif.; daughter, Mary Beth (James) Principe of Blacklick, Ohio; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Waskowiak of New Port Richey, Fla.
Memorials may be made to Keystone Cemetery, St. Jacob, Ill.
According to Richard's wishes, he was cremated and a memorial service will be held April 24, 2010 at 11 am at Aebischer~Richeson Funeral Home, St. Jacob, Illinois, with the Rev. Gary Kniepkamp officiating. Burial will be at Keystone Cemetery, St. Jacob, Ill.
