Obituary

Richard J. "Mac" McCammack, 82, of Troy, IL, born Thursday August 13, 1942 in Monticello, IL and he passed away peacefully on Sunday October 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mac was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 52 years.  He received his Master's Degree from SIUE in Electrical Engineering and Technology.  Mac worked at McDonnell Douglas for over 12 years working in the Gemini Space Program.  He taught electronics classes at SWIC and Lewis and Clark college for several years.  He retired from the O'Fallon School District where he taught Electrical Technology Classes.  He coached Basketball and track and ended his career taking several students to state competing in High Jump.  He was honored and very proud of being in the finals for Teacher in Space Program.

In his spare time he enjoyed breeding, training and racing horses, at Fairmont Park Racetrack in Collinsville, IL, Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero, IL, Church Hill Downs in Louisville, KY and Ellis Park Racing Track in Henderson, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Wilma H. (nee Sefton) McCammack; his mother and father-in-law, D.T. and Musetta (nee Gaddis) Wilson; sisters and brother-in-law, Karen Head and Sharon (Chuck) Withrow.

He is survived by his wife, Donna (nee Wilson) McCammack whom he married August 18, 1962  in Decatur, IL; his children, Richard (Rita) McCammack of Troy, IL, Sheri (Scott) Schmidt of Edwardsville, IL and Steven (Cathy) McCammack of Collinsville, IL; grandchildren, Amanda (Chad) McCammack, Heather (Thomas) McCammack, Jennifer McCammack, Kayla (Austin) Wuebbels, Austin (Chloe) Schmidt, Jillian (Alex) McCammack-Paulus and Brad (Autumn) McCammack; great-grandchildren, Emma, Landon, Reese, Elijah, Wyatt, Everett, Mason, Ezra and Cameron; brothers, Jerry (Polly) McCammack of Nashville, AR, Edwin (Melody) McCammack of Urbana, IL and Dennis (Kathy) McCammack of Hillsboro, IL; brother-in-law, David Head of Decatur, IL; many nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

Visitation for Mac will be 9 am to 11 am on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church, Troy, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, October 18, at Bethel Baptist church with Rev. Tim Lewis officiating.  Interment will be in Friedens Cemetery, Troy, IL.
