Richard Martin Hansen, 86, of Troy, Ill., born April 6, 1926, in Lansing, Mich., died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, surrounded by his loving family at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Hansen was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, Ill., where he played St. Nicholas on the celebration of the feast of St. Nicholas. He began working at Dahlgren Naval Base in 1950, working on the first government computers. He then transferred to Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He retired from Scott Air Force Base where he was a mathematician/programmer. He served his country in the United States Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he graduated from the University of Michigan, Class of 1949. Dick was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 9266 Troy, Ill., 4th Degree Council 1758 Maryville, Ill., American Legion Post 708, Troy, Ill., DAV Buckeye State Post 8, and was past president of NAMI-Madison County.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Hansen; parents, Martin and Anna, nee Chenesky, Hansen; sister, Grace Hansen; grandmother, Mary "Muzz" Chenesky; two aunts, Mary (George) Wagner (sister of Anna Hansen) and Ida (John) Siephen (sister of Martin Hansen).
Surviving are his wife, Ambra, nee Thelen, Hansen, whom he married on Feb. 4, 1950, in Fowler, Mich.; sons, Kenneth (Valerie) Hansen of Grand Fork, N.D., Ronald Richard (Laura Lee) Hansen of Dayton, Ohio, Steven (Debbie) Hansen of Vermilion, Ohio, and David Hansen of Troy, Ill.; daughters, Carol (Dennis) Peake Columbia, Mo., and Mary K. Martin of Alaska; grandchildren, Matthew and Chaz Hansen, Emmanuel Peake, Lila (Michael) Schultz, Eli Peake, and Ronald Richard "Ricky" Hansen II; and his great-grandchild, Elijah Schultz.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill., and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill., with Father Pat Jakel officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
