Obituary

Melvin L. Simpson, 94, of Edwardsville, IL, born December 5, 1922 in Alton, IL, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Eden Village, Glen Carbon, IL.

Melvin attended both St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy and St. Boniface Catholic Church, Edwardsville, IL. He served his Country faithfully in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 525 Alton, IL and worked at Richard's Brick, Edwardsville, IL for many years. He was a member of the Southern Illinois Street Rod Association and enjoyed working on and driving his antique cars. Melvin enjoyed working on the farm, hunting, fishing and making the wood toys to take to craft shows with his wife Louise.

He was preceded in death by his wife Louise (nee Rexing) Simpson whom he married July 15, 1946 and who passed away March 19, 2014.; grandson, Kevin Simpson; son-in-law, Michael Berner; parents, James and Lulu (nee Barbeau) Simpson; brother, James Simpson; sisters, Rita Morrison and Ellen Ridenhower.

Surviving are his children, Louis (Karen) Simpson of Edwardsville, IL, and Ruth Berner of Bethalto, IL; grandchildren, Lori Simpson, Kirk (Sara) Simpson, Lindsey (Dave) Brown, Melissa (Craig) Edwards, Jamie (Brad) Jobe, Michelle (Kyle) Stumpf; 9 great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Norman and Louis Rexing.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL.

Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with Fr. Alan Hunter officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in Friedens Cemetery, Troy, IL.
