Obituary

Melva I. "Melps" Ahlmeyer, 85, of St. Jacob died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born and raised in St. Jacob and attended St. Jacob Grade School and High School. She married Arnold "Beans" Ahlmeyer on January 20, 1940 in St. Charles, MO. Following her marriage she and her husband continued to live in St. Jacob and from 1951-59 they owned and operated Beans' Bar in St. Jacob. During that time she became well known for her delicious homemade chili and her peel-and-eat shrimp.

When Triad H. S. opened in the fall of 1959 she became the head cook/cafeteria manager and worked there until 1962. From 1962 to 1981 she was employed at the Marine Garment Factory.

She loved to travel with her husband and was a master at raising flowers. She also enjoyed playing bingo and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of the St. Jacob United Church of Christ, American Garment Workers Union and was a driver for Meals on Wheels for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas W. (Donna) Ahlmeyer and Rodney K. (Tonia) Ahlmeyer of St. Jacob; four grandchildren Michael (Sandra) Ahlmeyer of Alhambra, Karen (Thomas) Melosi of Highland, Dawn (Keith) Hamilton of O'Fallon, MO, and Nicholas Ahlmeyer of Worden; seven great grandchildren Jacob, Eric, and Abby Melosi, Samuel and Derek Ahlmeyer, Chase and Mary Hamilton; a brother-in-law Vernon (Trudy) Ahlmeyer of Tehachapi, CA; sister-in-law Birdie Wilke of Highland; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Ada (nee Isaac) Wilke; her husband Arnold "Beans" Ahlmeyer who died May 30, 1990; grandson Eric Ahlmeyer; brothers Carl, Paul and George Wilke; sisters Gladys Springgate, Oradell Chaney, Bonnie Noeltner, and Martha Dean Stock.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009 and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home in St. Jacob.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Kneipkamp officiating. Interment will follow at Keystone Cemetery, St. Jacob.
