Obituary

Mary Lucille Giles, 82, of St. Jacob, Illinois, formerly of Collinsville, died Friday, August 17, 2007 at Anderson Hospital.

The funeral service was Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Laughlin Funeral Home in Troy, Illinois with the Rev. Dr. David Schnepf officiating. Burial was in St. Johns Cemetery in Collinsville, Illinois.

Mrs. Giles was born April 5, 1925 in Alton, Illinois to Guy Chester Chism and Mary Augusta (nee:Lowis) Chism-Manns.

Mrs. Giles moved to St. Jacob in 1988. She had worked at several occupations throughout her life, including poultry farming, a family-owned grocery store in Collinsville, a secretary at Robertson's Farm Supply in East St. Louis, Illinois, and as a medical secretary for Dr. Zielonko in Troy. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Collinsville, the Collinsville Senior Citizens and Madison County Farm Bureau.

She is survived by a son, Steven (Deborah) Giles of Troy, Illinois, a daughter, Linda (Dennis) Petry of Troy, Illinois, a sister, Ivis Bedrick of Warner Robins, Georgia, a stepsister, Alice Manns Hughes of East Alton, Illinois, two stepbrothers, Lloyd (Laura) Manns and Bill (Doris) Manns, both of Alton, Illinois, six grandchildren, Jeffrey M (Geetu) Petry of Round Rock, Texas, Joel (Stacy) Petry of Glen Carbon, Illinois, Regina Petry of Seattle, Washington, Ariana D. Giles of Troy, Illinois, Melissa M. Giles of Rolla, Missouri, and Michelle D. Giles of Troy, Illinois, and four great-grandchildren, Morgan and MacKenzie Petry of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Leena and Devin Petry of Round Rock, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Fred Manns, her first husband, Melvin Robert Giles who died January 14, 1971, second husband Arvin Giles who died March 19, 2007, a stepbrother, George Manns, and a brother-in-law John (Dusty) Bedrick.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, St. John's United Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor's choice.
