IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary June
Freeman
June 9, 1922 – October 18, 2021
Mary June Freeman, 99, passed away October 18 in Troy, where she had resided for more than 70 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Freeman. She leaves behind 4 children: Scottie, Bob (Karen), Connie McBride (Ken), and Tracy Coogen (Tim); 8 grandchildren: Kristan Byrd (Warren), Kyle Freeman (Amy), Kane Freeman (Jennifer), Jessica Grieshaber (Mark), Dan Foehrkolb (Christine), Joe Foehrkolb (Mila), Jennifer Forrest (Chris), Ashley Wilkerson (Steve); 23 great-grandchildren: Caitlyn, Devynn, Cali, Camryn, Chayse, Jackson, Cruz, Dima, Blaine, Liza, Carlie, Aubri, Lincoln, Gena, Alie, Cami, Liam, Sophie, Will, Jake, Sky, Kalyn, Clayton; and one great-great grandchild, Remy.
Married 49 years to William S. Freeman who worked 45 years in the Triad School District, Mary June was first and foremost a devoted wife and mother. Her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her family and celebrate special days with her famous roast beef dinner and homemade pie.
A very talented pianist, Mary June could sit down at the piano and play anything-name a song or hum a tune and she could play it. She was proud to have several children and grandchildren who inherited her talent and love of music.
The youngest of 5, Mary June was the daughter of a farmer in Calhoun County. She met her husband, Bill, while attending Pleasant Hill High School. She was active in school and was crowned homecoming queen her senior year.
Mary June recently celebrated her 99th birthday at Morningside of Troy where her favorite Elvis, Steve Davis, serenaded her with a surprise concert to honor her birthday. She said it was the best party she ever attended.
Those of us lucky enough to have been a part of her special roast beef and homemade pie festivities will always hold those smells, tastes, and good times very close to our hearts.
