IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Joyce
Johnson
June 12, 1935 – April 23, 2025
Marilyn Joyce Goodin Johnson, known as ReJoyce to her friends, entered
into the arms of her Savior at the age of 89 on April 23, 2025. She was
born to James Randall and Lorraine (Biggs) Goodin on June 12, 1935, in
Granite City, Illinois. Joyce was only two years old when her father passed
away, and her mother remarried soon after.
Joyce attended school in Mitchel and at Granite City High School until her
family relocated to Los Alamos, New Mexico, following her stepfather,
LaVern Turner's employment at Los Alamos Atomic Laboratories. She
attended Los Alamos High School for three months and graduated in 1953.
Joyce briefly attended the University of New Mexico before being hired as
an IBM key punch operator.
Joyce married Thomas Lee Johnson on June 19, 1956. Together, they
raised three children in Maryville. After Tom's retirement, the couple moved
to Lehigh Acres, Florida. Tom passed away in 1998 and following his death,
Joyce returned to Troy.
Joyce was a member of Bethel Baptist Church but attended Troy Methodist
Church when she gave up her car and could walk to church.
Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Her warmth and
kindness touched everyone who knew her. If she talked to you for more
than a few moments, you were liable to receive a copy of the book, Jesus
Calling. She loved to paint and garden. She will be remembered for her
strength, her laughter, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
Joyce is survived by her children Valorie (James) Hampton of Troy, Vicki
(Karl) Timmons of Wichita Kansas, and Jay Johnson of Collinsville. She is
survived by grandchildren Christina (Grant) Jones, Jamie (Nick) Reitz,
Joshua (Susan) Pettus, and Dakoda Jenkins and Jessica McGhee, and
great-grandchildren Alexandra Treadwell, Thaddeus and Jackson Jones,
Ella and Hattie Reitz, Kamryn, Lilliona and Duane Jenkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her half-sister Karen Busse
and daughter-in-law Kimberly Tanner Johnson.
A private service will be held. Donations in Joyce's honor may be made to
Samaritan's Purse Ministries.
