Margaret Anna Platz-Smith, 97, of Troy, IL, born October 31, 1920 in O'Fallon, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Margaret was a long time faithful member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL. She had many jobs during her long life, Housekeeper at the Pleasant View TB Sanatorium in Fairview Heights, IL, worked in the Red Stone Arsenal Ammunition plant during WWII and Selmore Clothing Manufacturing as a seamstress in O'Fallon, IL. She loved sports, playing third base on a softball team in the 1930 and was privileged to play under the light with that league, she enjoyed bowling and carried a very high average, she enjoyed dancing belonging to Fun Square Dancers and Dandy Dancers and the over 50 Club. She also enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinal. Her family came first and she enjoyed the times she spent with her grandchildren, great grand-children and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herman J. Platz, who passed away in 1988, and Beryl N. Smith, who passed away in 1996; parents, John C. and Anna C. (nee Seipp) Yaeger; sons, Stephen J. and Kenneth J. Platz; brothers, Henry, Joseph, John and James Yaeger; and sisters, Ruth A. Carson and Helen Meyers.

Surviving are her daughter, Ruth Ann (Vor) Spicer of Fairview Heights, IL; grandchildren, Christopher Fleming, Laura (Dennis Walthes) Blaylock, Christina (David) Green, Jeffrey Fleming and Cynthia (John) Russell; great-grandchildren, Jaclyn Fleming, Gina (Justin) Hill, Drew Weyenberg, Cara Weyenberg, Corey (Chelsea) Fleming, Katelynn Fleming and Jacob Crawford; and great-great-grandchildren, Paige and Anna Rohr, Orion and Phoenix Hill, Ian Fleming and Brinlee Yarbrough.

Funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL, with Fr. Kevin Laughery officiating. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, O'Fallon, IL.
