Margaret Fern Porter, nee Thomas, 83, of Troy, Ill., born March 27, 1926, in Troy, Ill., died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

Mrs. Porter had lived all of her life in the Troy area and worked in the newspaper delivery service.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur J. and Anita Baird, nee Droll, Thomas; a brother, William A. Thomas; and a sister, Betty J. Kueker.

Surviving are her husband, Freeman M. Porter of Troy, Ill., whom she married on June 27, 1948, in Troy, Ill.; sons, Mark F. (Sandy) Porter and Brent A. (Tina) Porter, both of Troy, Ill.; daughters, Jill S. (Charles) Brenkendorff of Troy, Ill., Carla J. (Dan) Wigand of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Beth A. (Ray O'dell) Rice of Troy, Ill.; grandchildren, Jamie Gourley, Casey Hillebrand, Jacob Brenkendorff, Christopher O'dell, Lacey Luitjohan, Ashley Rickey, Aaron Brenkendorff, Bradley Porter, Bria Porter and Amanda O'dell; and multiple great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Frieden's United Church of Christ or Unity Hospice.

Private services were held officiated by the Rev. Gerry Proctor. Interment in Friedens United Church of Christ Cemetery, Troy, Ill.
