Mae M. Hanks, 93, of Highland, IL, formerly of Troy, IL. Born Wednesday, December 24, 1930 in Troy, IL and passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at her home in Highland, IL.

Mae was a life long faithful member of St. Jerome Catholic Church where she was a member of St. Ann Sodality.  She graduated from McCray-Dewey High School Class of 1948.  She loved her family and was happiest when she was spending time with them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J. "Charlie" Hanks whom she married October 21, 1950 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy and he passed away on March 20, 2010; her son, Steve Hanks; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Hanks; her parents, Paul M. Sr. and Ethel M. (nee Arth) Capelle; her brothers, Paul M. and Art D. Capelle; and her sister, Mary L. Nemon.

Surviving are her children, John Hanks of Edwardsville, IL and Gail Shimer of Highland, IL; daughter-in-law, Maureen Hanks of Manito, IL,; grandchildren, Matt (Beth) Hanks, Maggie (Josh) Charlton, Jessie (Matt) Mischler, Cody (Amber) Shimer, Ethan (Jannah Stone) Shimer, Jared (Breanna) Shimer, Samantha Hanks and Jake (Sammi) Hanks; great-grandchildren, Grace, Luke, Lucy, Emma, Jane, Jude, Jack, Charlie, Madeline, Jamieson, Lincoln, Hollynn, Stevie Lynn, Hayden and Madelyn; her sisters-in-law, Margie Capelle of Highland, IL, Sue Hanks of Troy, IL and Nancy Capelle of Troy, IL; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral Mass will be said 10:30 am on Thursday, July 25 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL with Fr. Pat Jakel and Fr. Kevin Laughery officiating.  Interment will be in St. Jerome Cemetery, Troy, IL.
