Obituary

Lucille M. Mersinger, age 87, of Troy, IL. died August 16, 2010 at Relais Bonne Eau Community Hospice, Edwardsville, IL. She was the widow of Joseph Mersinger.

Mrs. Mersinger was born June 28, 1923 in Aviston, IL. to Anton and Rosa (nee Zurliene) Strieker. For many years, Lucille enjoyed bowling and had been on many bowling leagues in Trenton, Edwardsville, Troy and Collinsville. She participated in many Illinois State bowling tournaments and Illinois Knights of Columbus State Tournaments. She retired from bowling in the year 2000 while still using a 16 pound bowling ball. She maintained a 160 bowling average for many years. Lucille enjoyed the simple life in the country which involved gardening, fruit and vegetable canning, crocheting, playing cards, and visiting friends and relatives. She looked forward to watching her grandchildren play sports; watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball in the summer; NCAA basketball in the winter, and the Professional Bowling Association (PBA) Tour.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Mersinger was preceded in death by brothers, Alphonse (Martha)
Strieker, Ferdinand Strieker, and Anthony Strieker; sisters, Christine Strieker, Dorothy (Robert) Holtkamp, and Bernadette (Peter) Frey.

She is survived by her son, James "Jim" Mersinger of Troy, Il.; daughter, Margaret "Maggie" (Steve) Benhoff of Troy, Il.; grandchildren, Kathryn and Mary Benhoff, and Joseph and Molly Mersinger; sister-in-laws, Alvina and Mary Strieker of Aviston, Il.

Memorials may be made to Relais Bonne Eau Community Hospice or St. John the Baptist Chapel Foundation.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Il.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Il. with Fr. Pat Jakel officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Black Jack, Il.
