Obituary

Linda Kaye Marvin, 73, of Troy, IL, passed away at 10:39 pm on June 21, 2023 at Edwardsville Care Center, after a nearly three-year battle with brain cancer.

She was born on September 17, 1949, in Peoria, IL, to Harvey H. and Elsie G. (White) Hasten.

Lin was a 1967 graduate of East Peoria Community High School, where she was a cheerleader and chorus/drama member. Lin was proud of her tenure as the department secretary for the Department of Construction in the School of Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUe) from 2000-2018; she retired from SIUe in 2018 after 28 years.

Lin's greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandsons. She enjoyed listening to music, especially country, and her very favorites were Elvis Presley (whom she considered her ultimate dream man), Neil Diamond, and the Oak Ridge Boys. She also enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and called the team "her boys." Lin enjoyed traveling and her time spent living in places like Downey, California, and Ansbach, Germany. Lin was a self-described chocoholic and would surely have considered selling her treasured jewelry collection had the world's last Reese's Peanut Butter Cup been involved. Lin was a huge animal lover and always had very well-loved and pampered dogs: Mitzi, Tina, Shane, Tara, Dasher, Toby, Casey, and Chloe; Lin also dearly loved her granddog T.J. and her grandkitties Allegra and Jackie.

Lin is survived by her daughter, Angela K. Marvin and special friend Mark Novosel, and her son, Patrick J. Marvin; her beloved grandsons, Lewyn Patrick and Elijah John Marvin, who were the absolute lights of her life; former husband and friend Larry Marvin; three sisters, Karen Meisenheimer, Vickie (William) Moore, and Sheryl (Robert) Shaneyfelt; one niece, Lacey Meisenheimer and partner Aaron Miller; three nephews, Bryan (Laura) Moore, Scott (Courtney) Moore, and Dominick Shaneyfelt; great-nieces Morgan York and Evelyn Moore; great-nephews Carter Swan, Bennett Moore, Charlie Moore, and Theodore Moore; one uncle, Dr. Merle White; one aunt, Shirley Melton; many cousins; and many friends.

Lin was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Cremation will be accorded, with arrangements handled by Richeson Funeral Home in Troy, IL, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, or Partners 4 Pets.
