Leroy Gilbert Flath, age 81, of Troy, Illinois, died Tuesday night, June 17, 2003 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Mr Flath was a telephone service repairman for Illinois Bell. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Troy, where he served as president of the congregation, past trustee, and has been involved with many building projects. He retired from the Troy Fire Department, where he served two terms as Fire Chief. He was a member of Madison County Firemen's Association and former Troy city alderman. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed playing euchre.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna, nee Junghans, Flath and two brothers, Elmer and Milton.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine, nee Deterding, Flath, whom he married March 23, 1946; two daughters, Judy (Kenny) Sipes and Susan (Ken) Taylor, all of Troy. He is also survived by five grandchildren and a sister, Helen Sievers, of Highland, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Building Fund.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Laughlin Funeral Home and after 10:00 am Friday, June 20, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Troy, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 20, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Darwin Schrader and Vicar Bob Rupprecht officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Troy, Illinois.
