Lena Hess
Lena W. Hess, 92, of Edwardsville, Ill., born Oct. 28, 1919, in Edwardsville, Ill., died on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Hess was a cook at the Marine Elementary Grade School. She was a member of the Marine United Church of Christ, the Missionary Circle at the church and the UCC Womens Guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Hess; parents, John and Lucinda, nee Boda, Schmitt; sons, Robert and Gerald Hess; brother, Henry Schmitt; and sisters, Bertha Holtmann, Nora Frisse, Amelia Schmitt and Frieda Henke.
Surviving are her children, Thomas (Carol) Hess, Betty (Joe) Szatkowski and Mary (Jim) Helms, all of Edwardsville, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Marine United Church of Christ or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home in Troy, Ill.
Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Phil Kershner officiating.
Interment in Marine City Cemetery in Marine, Ill.
