Obituary

Mrs. Lela M. Lybarger (nee Lockley) passed away on April 8th, 2004 at 2:45 A.M. at her residence in Troy, Illinois.

She wsa born on November 28, 1921 in Granite City, Illinois to the late Martin Otis and Augusta (nee Dillow) Lockley.

She graduated from Madison High School in 1939. After graduating, she served as an apprentice beautician at Agnes's Beauty Shop in Granite City and then passed her state license test. She married Jimmie Lybarger, Sr. on June 28, 1941, at the First Presbyterian Church in Madison, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Martin O. Lockley, Jr. and a baby sister, AnnaBelle.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Karen (Robert) Freeman of Highland, Illinois, Mrs. Patti (Dennis) Amsden of Collinsville, Illinois, and one son Jimmie Lybarger, Jr., his special friend Terri Suter of St. Jacob, Illinois. Also surviving are grandchildren Kristan (Warren) Freeman Byrd; Kyle (Amy) Freeman, Kane (Jennifer) Freeman; Dawn (Tim) Amsden Stark, Denny Amsden(life partner Shelley Fruith); Deedra (Paul) Amsden Mager, David Amsden, Dallas (Megan) Amsden; and Ryan, Christopher, Jordan and Marissa Lybarger. Surviving great grandchildren are Caitlin, Devynn, Cali, Camryn and Chayse Byrd; Jake Freeman, Lydia, Isabella and Michael Stark; and Cole, Hope, and Lela Mager.

Mrs. Lybarger worked for the Troy Security Bank for eleven years. She was a brownie leader, an active PTA member; Member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge for 50 years; and in l968 was selected Valentine Queen of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she also served as president in l970.

She was a loving and giving Christian who enjoyed people and served as an elder and worked with the seniors in her church. She and Jimmie were founding members of Son Life Church in Collinsville, Illinois, where she also served as treasurer for 21 years.

A housewife and mother, first and foremost, she loved the Lord and family and friends. She also enjoyed entertaining, bowling, music, dancing, movies, reading, shopping, Cardinal baseball and was "Captain of the Reds" in school.

Visitation: 4:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, April 9, 2004 at Laughlin Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Son Life Church in Collinsville with Pastor Dennis Amsden officiating.

Interment: Friedens Cemetery, Troy, Illinois
