IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lavera Wilhelm
Hogg
August 19, 1924 – January 28, 2025
LaVera R. Hogg, 100, of Troy, IL, born Tuesday, August 19, 1924, in East St. Louis, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Anderson Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
LaVera was a kind, sweet, and resilient woman who lived a quietly beautiful life. She was a long-time
member of the Troy United Methodist Church and Jarvis Township Senior Center. A talented seamstress,
nearly everyone in the family had worn something she had made, hemmed, or repaired. And perhaps
the sweetest secret to a long and happy life was her devotion to ice cream.
LaVera was preceded in death by her husbands, John H. Wilhelm, whom she married on January 15,
1944, and passed away on January 11, 1973, and Stephen A. Hogg, whom she married on December 16,
1984 and passed away on February 15, 2011; her son, John "Jack" Wilhelm; grandson, Steven Iberg;
great-granddaughter, Zoey Waymire; her sons-in-law, Gene Hindle, Tom Jasper and Tim Zenik; and her parents, Earl Ballinger and Edith (nee Allan) Ballinger Winterringer.
Surviving are her daughters, Sharon Jasper Zenik of Collinsville, Patricia Hindle of Collinsville, IL, and
Barbara (Brian) Stark of Burlington, IL; grandchildren, Hannah (Ian) Mason, Bryan Jasper, Dawn (Joe)
Jasper-Waymire, Ashley (Josh Barragree) Stark and Emily Stark; great-grandchildren, David (Kim) Iberg,
Malakai Houtz, Emerson Mason, Sebastian Waymire and Jordan Waymire; great-great-grandchildren
Riley and William Iberg, her dear friend, Dan McEwing of Troy, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins and
cherished friends.
The family would like to thank the third-floor staff at Anderson Hospital for their compassionate care,
allowing LaVera's final days to be comfortable and giving her loved ones precious time with her.
