Obituary

Kenneth E. "Kenny" Sipes, 78, of Troy, IL, born Friday, January 10, 1947, in Granite City, IL and passed away
peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

Kenny was a dedicated and hardworking man who took great pride in his community and the
organizations he was involved in. He was married to Judy, with whom he built a loving and supportive
life together. Kenny and Judy were married for 48 years and enjoyed traveling with their family. Their
marriage was a testament to devotion and partnership, and they shared many cherished memories
throughout the years.

A longtime member of the Chemical Workers Union (Local 50) at Granite City Steel, he was a diesel
mechanic who valued the friendships he built throughout his career. His faith was also an important part
of his life, and as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, he served as Church President, Chairman of the
annual Sausage Supper, as well as a church usher, volunteer, and an active member.

His passion for youth sports left a lasting impact on his community. He was involved in the founding of
both the Troy Baseball Softball Association and the Troy Little Knights Basketball program, always
looking for ways to support young athletes. Over the years, he coached several teams, including the
Troy American Legion baseball team, where he shared his love for the game and mentored many
players.

Outside of his commitments, he enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling, and fishing. However,
more recently nothing brought him more joy than watching his grandchildren compete in their sporting
events and other interests like music and drama. His kindness, dedication, and love for his family will be
deeply missed but always remembered.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Q. and Florine (nee Tester, later Owens) Sipes; his
step-parents, Opal Sipes and William "Leroy" Owens; his brother, William "Willie" Owens; and his son-
in-law, Nathan Youngman.
