Joseph Keith McFarland, age 58, of Troy, Illinois died Friday, October 15, 2010 at his home with family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Andrea Cox-McFarland.

Mr. McFarland was a teacher in Madison, Illinois schools. He was a member of Illinois Federation of Teachers; two-time basketball All-American, State of Illinois and SIUE Hall of Famer. Keith was inducted into the State of Illinois 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame and inducted into SIUE's Intercollegiate Athletics 2007 Hall of Fame. He had lived all his life in the Troy area.

Mr. McFarland was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Sybil ,nee Garland, McFarland, and two brothers, Gordon "Mackie" and Mike McFarland.

He is survived by his wife, Andrea Cox-McFarland of Troy, IL.; children, Joseph Keith (Kayci) stationed in Anchorage, AK and Dakota Edward of Troy, IL.; sisters, Gay (Don) Hinnen of Sun City, AZ, Sharon (Larry) Schlaefer of St. Jacob, IL. and Gina (Jim) Hays of Marine, IL.; many sister in-laws, brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Laughin-Richeson Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Pat Jakel officiating.

Keith's wishes were to be cremated.
