Obituary

John A. "Jack" Mercurio, 62, of Troy, Ill., born Aug. 18, 1946, in St. Louis, Mo., died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at his home.

Jack was a maintenance engineer and a member of the VFW Post 976 in Troy, Ill. He was an avid Cardinals Baseball fan. He played on the University City High School's baseball and basketball teams, and he was a member of the 1963 Baseball State Champs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian C. and Catherine, nee Babiak, Mercurio; and a brother, Joseph Mercurio.

Surviving are his wife, Carole Mercurio; a son, Jacob Mercurio; daughters, Michelle (Charles) Merchant of Troy, Ill., Melanie (Jeremy) Newman of Collinsville, Ill., and Tiffany Mercurio of Glen Carbon, Ill.; grandchildren, Brianna and Alexis Merchant, and Allysa and Ryan Newman; brothers, James Mercurio of St. Louis, Mo., and Michael (Joan) Mercurio of St. Peters, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Jean Mercurio of Eureka, Mo.

Friends may call from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, 205 Edwardsville Road, Troy, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill., with Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
