John J. McCarey, 78, of Trenton, Ill., 78, born Feb. 16, 1935, East St. Louis, Ill., died on Dec. 8, 2013, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Highland, Ill.
John was a retired trooper with the Illinois State Police after 26 and a half years and a life member of Fraternal Order of police Lodge No. 41, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marcella, nee Kockmann, McCarey: brother, James McCarey; sister, Geraldine Lonergan; and brother-in-law, Jack Lonergan.
Surviving are his wife, Janet, nee Rehg, McCarey of Trenton, Ill.: children, Daniel McCarey, Anna (Jerry) Schoendienst and Dana McCarey; step children, Keith (Jen)Staas, Kevin (Deb) Staas and Karen (Scott) Seger; sisters, Earlene Eckert and Jackie (Vern) Brendel; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home Chapel, 211 North Douglas St., St. Jacob, Ill., with the Rev. Gary Kniepkamp officiating. Interment in Keystone Cemetery, St. Jacob, Ill.
