John M. Donovan, 81, of St. Jacob, IL, born Friday, March 22, 1940 in East St. Louis, IL and passed away peacefully on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Anderson hospital, Maryville, IL.

John was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL.  He retired from Boeing as an Aeronautical Engineer.  John attended both SIUE And Mizzou and graduated with Masters in Physics, Computer Science and Engineering.  He was very quiet soul, intelligent and enjoyed reading.  He was a good brother, a little stubborn when needed and was always the loving gruff old uncle John.  He piloted small planes for years and traded planes for sail boats as he got older.  John was an animal lover especially dogs and enjoyed the company of his pup Dixie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah M. and Emma (nee Switzer) Donovan; a brother, Joseph W. Donovan; and his sisters, Patricia "Pat" Donovan, Mary Elizabeth Osborn and Virginia M. Lewis.

Surviving are his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces, nephews and friends.

Prayer service for John will be held at 11 am Thursday, May 27, 2021 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL, with Fr. Kevin Laughery officiating, interment in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Black Jack, IL
