It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of James L

Penrod. James passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on

Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the age of 85.

James was born in Wolf Lake, IL on Tuesday, January 19, 1937, to Everett and Grace nee

Ballance Penrod. He married the love of his life, Peggy, nee Casper on September 22,

1957. Together they raised four children. James served in the army from 1960-1962,

spending much of that time in Korea. James and Peggy owned and operated Penrod

Trucking for over 40 years. James was an alderman for the City of Troy for several

years in the mid 90's. He is also a lifetime member of the American Legion and a

member of the Moose Lodge. James is known among friends and family for serving up

the best bar-b-q and coldest beer in the three counties. He never knew a stranger,

welcoming everyone he met into his home and doing what he could to help those who

were down on their luck.

James is proceeded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Peggy nee Casper; a

grandson, Austin Penrod; his son and daughter in law, Todd and Colleen Penrod, two

brothers Burl and Merl Penrod; five sisters Opal (Runt) Sadler, Virginia (Robert)

Machleith, Helen (James) Dunagan, Mildred (John) Shelton, Eula (Buck) Walker.

Surviving are one brother, Joe Penrod, Anna IL, and a sister Patty Hinson, Jonesboro,

IL; his children, Mark (Patti Elder) Penrod of Belleville, IL, Shawna (Brent) Loper of

Concord, NC, and Angel (Dannie Sipes) Penrod of Troy, IL; grandchildren, Tyler (Iryna)

Penrod, Jordan Pendergrass, Kelsey and Karoline Sipes, and Nathan and Eli Loper;

great-grandchildren, Monroe and Andie Pendergrass, and Liliana and Elizabeth Penrod.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 1 to 3 pm at Troy VFW Hall, Military Honors will be held at 1 pm.
