Obituary

James R. "Jay" Mays of Troy, Ill., died on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 13, 1938, in Chaffee, Mo., to John and Geraldine, nee Zimmer, Mays.

Jay was a "Railroader" having worked many years for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad and retiring from Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of East Lodge No. 504 AF and AM, the Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies, Valley of Southern Illinois, Ainad Shrine, East St. Louis Illinois and T & T Golf Group.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Mays; mother, Geraldine, nee Zimmer, Williamson; step-father, Cecil Williamson; brothers, Robert Mays Sr., and John Mays; sisters, June Stevens and brother-in-law, Clarence Stevens, Grace Graham and brother-in-law, Leonard Graham; mother and father-in-law, John Hill Sr., and Nola, nee Hutcheson, Hill; brothers-in-law, John Hill Jr., and Joe Lynn Hout; nephew, Robert Mays Jr.; nieces, Shirley Jones, Mary Kay Franklin, Diane Burgess and Tina Ruiz.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda, nee Hill, Mays, whom he married Nov. 4, 1972; sister, Brenda Hendrix of Clinton, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Jimmie Lou Hout of Paragould, Ark., and Ruby Montine of Madison, Ill.; nephews, Jim (Mary) Graham and Christopher Mays; nieces, Julie (Philip) Brown, Debbie Conner, Vickie Elizondo, Lisa (Mike) Holland, Barbara (Steve) Jacobs, Beverly Lambert, Clara (Bill) Lannom, Patty (Paul) Miller, Cindy Nelson, Linda (Gerald) Parmeley and Karen (Ken) Weinrich; and many great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of cherished friends and neighbors.

Memorials may be made to Troy United Methodist Church or BJC Hospice.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday Dec. 10, 2012, at Laughlin~Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill.
Friends may also call from and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday Dec. 11, 2012, at Troy United Methodist Church, Troy, Ill.

Service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Troy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis Price officiating, Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
