James D. Laughlin, 78, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Troy, IL, born January 13, 1941 in Alton, IL, passed away on July 30, 2019 at his home in Florida.

Jim was the former owner Laughlin Funeral Home in Troy retiring 2008. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, former Troy Fire Chief and was Troy Police Commissioner for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James F. and Bernice (nee Schwehr) Laughlin; and his first wife, Rosemary (nee Kronable) Laughlin.

Surviving are his wife of 29 years Deborah (nee Kowalski) Laughlin of Ft. Myers, FL; daughters, Cathy Burroughs and Leigh (Kent) Lewis of Troy, IL, Susan Eckhart of Cumming, GA, step-children, Jackie (Jason) Bode and Jeff (Erin) Nemsky both of St. Jacob, IL; grandchildren, Tyler, Paige (Levi Jenkins), Abby and Evan Burroughs, Adam Lewis, Mari (Jordan Nekola) Lewis, Jayne Lewis, Andrew, Bennett and Callan Eckhart; step grandchildren, Payton and Maris Bode and Chatham Nemsky; sisters, Kelley (Michael) Imbimbo of Hudson, FL and Sandy (John) Venneman of St. Louis, MO.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am Saturday, August 10, 2019 at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Ft. Myers, FL with burial in the Church Memorial Gardens.
