Obituary

Henry Edward Wendler, 91, of Highland, Ill., born Feb. 23, 1920, in Lebanon, Ill., died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in Highland, Ill.

Mr. Wendler served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He enjoyed fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals play ball, but his greatest passion was being able to play a good round of golf.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Rupert and Marie, nee Eyerkuss, Wendler; sisters, Dorothy Moran, Marian Sellers, Josephine Lane and a brother Rupert Wendler Jr..

Surviving are his wife, Anne, nee Zugel, Wendler, whom he married on Feb. 20, 1946 and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary; daughter, Nancy (Ron) Flanagan of Macomb, Ill.; sister, Norma Geiss of Wilmington, Ill.; two grandchildren, Cindy Patton and Steve Flanagan; four great-grandchildren, Andy Patton, Ashley Sullivan, Staci Havens and Kimberly Flanagan; and two great-great-grandchildren, Aidan Sullivan and Wyatt Patton.

Memorials may be made to Highland Health Care.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home, St. Jacob, Ill.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Kniepkamp officiating. Interment in Lebanon City Cemetery, Lebanon, Ill.
