Gladys Mae Huston, 92, of Troy, IL, born Monday, May 4, 1931 in Troy, IL and passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

Gladys was a faithful member of Friedens United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir, volunteering and chairing many church committees.  She retired from Ralston Purina in 1992.  She enjoyed traveling and led many bus excursions after her retirement.  She enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and quilting with the ladies from Friedens making beautiful quilts throughout the many years.  Gladys had a wonderful and full life.  She dearly loved her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jule and Katie (nee Bangert) Gaertner; brothers, Harold (Greta) Gaertner and Carl (Lee) Gaertner; her sister, Doris (Louis) Schmitt; nephews, Larry Ellis, Kolton Barker, Dennis Gaertner, Don Gaertner and Dick Schmitt; a niece, Karen (Charles) Row; and her cousin and special friend, Thelma Huston.

Surviving are her nephews, Gerald "Butch" Schmitt, Robert Schmitt, Clifford "Chip" Row, Justin Schmitt, Jeff (Jaime) Schmitt, Joe (Erin) Schmitt, Ron Gaertner, Barry Gaertner, Dean (Theresa) Huston, Stan (Vivian) Huston, Tanner (Brittany) Rider and Lukas (Maya) Skalisius; her nieces, Julie (Wayne) Loehring, Kathi Harris, Wendy (Don) Smith, Sheila Waggoner, Mandi (Jimmy) Hickam, Marcy (John) Hardwick, Tona (Rick) Walker, Shelly (Thomas) Farmer, Addie Huston and Crystal Huston; many great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of dear friends

Visitation for Gladys will be 9 to 11 am on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Friedens United Church of Christ, Troy, IL.

Celebration of life service will be held 11 am on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Friedens United Church of Christ, Troy IL with Rev. Tim Harrison officiating.  Interment will be in Friedens Cemetery.
