Gerald L. Lanter, 82, of St. Jacob, IL, born Sunday, November 15, 1936 in Gary, IN and passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Edwardsville Nursing and Rehab, Edwardsville, IL.

Gerald was a member of St. James Catholic Church, St. Jacob, IL where he served as a lector and worked many church picnics through the years. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and working in the garden. He was proud of his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his son, Duane Lanter; a grandson; his parents, Carson and Marie (nee Kamler) Lanter; and his brother, Albert Lanter.

Surviving are his wife , Frances (nee Kreiter) Lanter; children, Valerie (John) Jarvis of Troy, IL, Debra Lanter of St. Louis, MO, Brenda Barr of Jacksonville, FL, Paul (Kim) Lanter of Edwardsville, IL, Chris (Deborah) Lanter of Carlyle, IL and Matthew (Fay) Lanter of Collinsville, IL; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be held 9:30 am Saturday, September 28, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church, St. Jacob, Il with Fr. Kevin Laughery officiating.

Interment will take place in Keystone Cemetery, St. Jacob, Il. A reception will follow interment service at the St. Jacob Activity center, St. Jacob, IL
