Lanahan Sr.

Gerald J. Lanahan, Sr., 92, of Troy, IL, born Monday, September 2, 1929 in Granite City, IL passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2022 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.
Jerry was a faithful member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He served his Country faithfully in the United States Marine Corp. He and his wife Theresa owned and operated GJ Lanahan Construction and later Lanahan Construction Co. Inc. for 40 years, building close to 600 homes in the Troy area. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Holy Trinity Assembly 3442, Knights of Columbus 3 rd Degree Council 9266, Life member of American Legion Post #708 Troy, IL and held a board position on the Morning McDonalds "Liars Club". Jerry was a Troy Alderman for 24 years and loved working and creating at his workshop making bowls along with other interesting items. He enjoyed a good bird or deer hunting trip, especially with his grandsons. Jerry and Theresa enjoyed Barber Shopper Chorus and Sweet Adelines for many years. He and Theresa enjoyed traveling in their retirement years especially being "snowbirds" in Texas. He was proud of his family and enjoyed the times spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa K. (nee Decker) Lanahan whom he married June 24, 1950 at Mother of Perpetual Catholic Church, Maryville, IL. She passed away on January 17, 2017; his son, James E. Lanahan; a daughter, Mary Lanahan; parents, Edward and Margaret Viola (nee Bergschneider) Lanahan; brothers, Carroll J. Lanahan and James Lanahan; and his sister, Mary Katherine Lanahan.
Surviving are his children; Gerald "Joe" (Susan) Lanahan Jr. of Sunrise Beach, MO, Kenneth P. (Debra) Lanahan of Davenport, FL, Cynthia Lanahan of Collinsville, IL and Nancy (Bobby) Douglas of Troy, IL; grandchildren, Joshua (Nicole) Lanahan, Janell (Travis) Jones, Justin (Amanda) Lanahan, Matthew (Cristina) Lanahan, Kari (Garrett) Zavaglia, Jennifer (Leonardo III) Flores, Elizabeth (Jon) Jester, Kimberly Douglas, Joshua (Annie) Douglas, Laura Douglas, Jesse Lanahan and Nicole Lanahan; great-grandchildren, Rianne, Samantha, Devin, Colton, Kailynn, Scarlett, Logan, Barrett, Ada, Keirsten, Jonathan, Isabelle, Jillian, Leonardo IV, Michael, Kathleen and Jayden; his special companion and friend, Betty Holshouser; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation for Jerry will be 5 to 8 pm on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at RICHESON FUNERAL HOME, Troy, IL.
Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 pm on Monday, March 21, 2022 at Mother of Perpetual Catholic Church, Maryville, IL with Fr. Rob Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Glen Carbon, IL.
