George
Himmeger
Nov 18, 1937 — Aug 5, 2026
On Wednesday, August 5 th , George Nelson Himmeger, our beloved father passed away peacefully at his home, at the age of 88.
George was born November 18, 1937, in St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey M. (nee Beynon) Himmeger; his parents, George E. and Julia (nee Kordonowy) Himmeger; a brother, John Himmeger and his sister, Susan Smith.
Surviving are his daughters, Amanda Petersen of Reno, NV and Amy (David) Surprenant of Yorkville, IL; grandchildren, Brent, Brooke and Brielle Surprenant; many beloved nieces, nephews, great- and great-great nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends.
George was loved by many, using his quick wit to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke. A natural teacher, he was willing and happy to share his knowledge and experience with others. Known to friends, family, and community as Friendly George, his jovial and welcoming presence ensured no one left an encounter with George as a stranger.
Throughout his life George had a natural curiosity for “how things work” and was always reading and educating himself of a variety of topics. If there was a task to be done or a special item to purchase, George could (and would!) put in the effort to research and educate himself. His wonderment at the world and his enthusiasm to share meant one could count on an interesting and engaging conversation.
Our beloved George was a jovial presence in the world; and his booming laugh will echo in our hearts. To help keep his spirit alive on earth the family suggests donations be made to The Arbor Day Foundation, either directly at arborday.org or via their reforestation project at alivingtribute.org
Visitation for George will be 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL
