Gary "Gabe" Gabehart, 71, 0f Troy, Il, born July 24, 1943, in Oakland, CA, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in St. Louis, MO.
Gary was served his country in the US Navy during the Cuban Conflict. He was a pilot, the owner of Sundance Airways, an Indian activist, a tribal member of the Chickasaw Nation, worked at the UTHSC in San Antonio and a Tupperware Distributor in Illinois. One of his most rewarding accomplishments was the closing of the street in front of the Alamo in San Antonio to keep traffic off the grave and make it available for foot traffic only. He was very interested in family history and enjoyed digging around old dusty courthouses and making endless phone calls with family members.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Joe W. and Frances B. (O'Brien) Gabehart.
Surviving are his wife and best friend Peggy Gabehart whom he married 29 years ago in San Antonio, TX.; children, Tim (Kim) Gabehart of Spring, TX, Tammy Gabehart of Houston, TX,; step-children, Steven (Yvette) Bishop of Mascoutah, IL and Larry (Laura) Bishop of San Antonio, TX; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers and 2 sisters; and hundreds of friends who will miss him so much.
