Garrett James Byrnes, 78, of St. Jacob, Ill., born Aug. 28, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., passed away Dec. 18, 2015, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Ill.
Garrett retired from St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Ill. He attended the United Church of Christ, and was a Boy Scout Troop leader for many years. He loved bowling, hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved the time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Byrnes; parents, Garrett and Florence, nee Painter, Byrnes; and sons-in-law, Bob Koch and Donald Schumacher.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl J., nee Meyer, Byrnes of St. Jacob, Ill.; children, Tim Byrnes of Highland, Ill., Jean Koch of Greenville, Ill., and Janet (Lee) Schumacher Hackle of Leavenworth, Kan.; grandchildren, Chad Koch, Karla (Derek) Meskil, Andrew (Beth Henry) Koch, Darren Koch, Aaron (Jessica) Schumacher and Evan Schumacher; and great-grandchildren, Carson Talleur, Payton Meskil, Barrett Meskil, Robert Koch and Jacob Koch.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home, St. Jacob, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at the funeral home with Rev. Douglas Seagle officiating. Burial will be in Keystone Cemetery.
