Ewald “Wally” J. Hoffman, 74, of Troy, IL, born April 2, 1952, in Granite City, IL, passed peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at his home in Troy, IL.

Wally developed his renowned bricklayer’s precision as a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) of Illinois. His strong will and entrepreneurial spirit led him to great success as the owner and operator of Hoffman Quality Brick for over 30 years. He took tremendous pride in many high-visibility projects throughout the Metro East, including the brick signs welcoming all to the City of Troy, the Don Spencer Memorial, and countless homes (with his work on his daughters’ homes holding special significance to him).

He was a passionate NASCAR fan, and adored The Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt. He cheered for St. Louis sports teams and attended many games over the years, but his favorite teams were those his grandchildren played on. He enjoyed gardening and had a love for tomatoes, cucumbers (“cupes”), peppers, and radishes. He also enjoyed fishing trips, playing poker and euchre, and any activities with his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Alberta (nee Otto) Hoffman; sisters Fern Massey and Frieda Hoffman; brothers Edward and Fred Hoffman; and his sister-in-law, Carol Hollingshead.

Surviving is his wife, Linda (nee Taake) Hoffman, whom he married November 23, 1974, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Troy, IL; his daughters, Amy (Ryan) Melliere of O’Fallon, IL and Mindy (Kyle) Wiesemeyer of Troy, IL; his grandchildren, Chase, Dade, Blake, Dax and Paige; sister-in-law, Donna (Mark) Sanders of Troy, IL; a nephew, Chad (Valerie) Burgess; and his great-nieces, Claire and Makenna; and many friends.

Visitation for Wally will be from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 2, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, with Rev. Tim Price officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Friedens Cemetery, Troy, IL
