Evelyn M. Jackson, 92, of Alton, Ill., formerly of Troy, Ill., born Feb. 14, 1920, in St. Louis, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton, Ill.
Mrs. Jackson was very active in the Band Boosters, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Steel Workers of American retired organization. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, St. Ann Altar Society since 1951, the American Legion for over 50 years, the American Legion Auxiliary and Jarvis Township Senior Citizens. Evelyn was a World War II U.S. Army-Transportation Corp. veteran.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Doug" Jackson, whom she married on Sept. 12, 1946, and who died Jan. 15, 1992; her parents, Fred H. and Agnes "Dolly", nee Hern, Vasel; a brother, Fred Jacob "Pete" Vasel; sister, Norma Shelton; and sister-in-law, Estelle Bayer.
Surviving are her son, Jon (Kathi) Jackson of Edwardsville, Ill.; daughters, Sondra Hart of Alton, Ill., Sharon (Rudy) Gordon of Florida, Judy Goebel of Prairietown, Ill., and Kitty Denton of Granite City, Ill.; sister, Alice Colon of Frankfort, Ill.; cousin and long time friend, Aunt "Toni" Hern of Alhambra, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill., and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Father Pat Jakel officiating. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery, Troy, Ill.
