Obituary

Elva M. Emmons, 102, of Troy, IL, born Friday, September 23, 1921 in Springfield, IL and passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 in Edwardsville, IL.

Elva was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville where she attended since 1992, previous to that she attended First Baptist Church of Edwardsville and First Baptist Church of Nokomis.  She retired from Madison County Shelter Care in 1981 with 17 years of service.  She enjoyed farming, gardening and canning and working on their farm "Bee Creek" in Pearl, IL.  In 2001 she moved to Liberty Square Retirement Community in Troy.  She enjoyed it there very much as she still had that gardening touch as the front of her place was blessed with a lot of beautiful containers of flowers making it look real homey.  In 2015, she moved to Cambridge house Retirement Center in Maryville, IL and then in 2016, she moved to Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville, IL.  She was a member of the Senior Group at First Baptist Church of Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Emmons whom she met on a blind date, they were married on August 23, 1941 and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1991, Eldon passed away April 1, 1995; her parents, Roy E. and Florence (nee Jarman) Davis; sisters, Louise Graden, Vida Graham, Norma Kaiser, Rosetta Wood, Ila Becker, Lelia Drew and Helen Stephens; her son-in-law, Denzil McCollum.

Surviving are her children, Ron (Mary) Emmons of Venice, FL and Linda McCollum and special friend Frank of Ellenton, FL; her granddaughter, Amy Dale of East Alton, IL; great-granddaughter, Emily Wells of Godfrey, IL; her brother, Donald Davis of Glen Carbon, IL; sisters, Betty Edwards of Medora, IL and Shirley Coffey of Santa Monica, CA; many nieces, nephews and friends.
