Obituary

Duane E. "Buck" Majors, 84, of St. Jacob, Ill., born June 18, 1924, in St. Jacob, Ill., died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Maryville Manor in Maryville, Ill.

Mr. Majors served in the U.S. Army during World War II in England, Germany, France, Belgium and the Philippine Islands. He was devoted to his church, the St. Jacob United Methodist Church, where he attended all his life. He was signed by the Cleveland Browns and returned from their training camp only after a career ending accident. Buck retained his interest in baseball, working as a scout for the Cincinnati Reds and other major league teams. He was a member of Greater Midwest Professional Baseball Scouts Association. He was-a charter member of St. Jacob Lions Club, a life member of Bussong Mersinger American Legion Post 665 in St. Jacob, Ill. and the Trenton VFW Post. During his career he was an editor at Scott AFB, Ill.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bertha, nee Fehmel, Majors.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Allegra, nee Modisetti, Majors; and a whole host of very dear friends.

Memorials may be made to the St. Jacob United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Aebischer-Richeson Funeral Home in St. Jacob, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at St. Jacob United Methodist Church in St. Jacob, Ill.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Jay Krumeich and the Rev. Pablo Marty officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Keystone Cemetery in St. Jacob, Ill.
