Dorothy R. Smoot, 78, of Troy, Ill., born January 8, 1939 in Damascus, Va., died on March 2, 2017 at Meridian Village, Glen Carbon, Ill.

Dorothy attended St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill. She worked many years at Dobbs Retail Store in  Mt. Vernon, Ill. She enjoyed playing bingo, shopping, reading, playing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, working in her flower garden and cooking grandma meals. Most of all she loved spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lucy, nee Wilcox, Reynolds; sisters, Shirley Staton, Jeannette Banton and Irene Stinson.

Surviving are her daughter, Juanita (Michael) Spotanski of Troy, Ill.; grandchildren, Matthew (Brittany) Spotanski, Elizabeth (Brian Loyet) Spotanski and Bradley Spotanski; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Cody and Aria Spotanski; brother-in-law, Charles Stinson of Forest, Va.; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at Richeson Funeral home, Troy, Ill. and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill.

Rite of Funeral Liturgy will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, Ill. with Rev. Alan Hunter officiating. Interment at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Blackjack, Ill.
