Dorothy Marie Schmidt, 82, of Troy, Ill., formerly of Highland, Ill.; born Jan. 12, 1927, in Granite City, Ill., died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at her home in Troy.

Mrs. Schmidt worked as a cashier in several grocery stores.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Schmidt whom she married in 1945, in St. Louis, Mo., and who died in 1984; and her parents, James and Emily, nee Kieger, Marler.

Surviving are her son, Bill (Angela) Schmidt of Brandon, Miss.; daughters, Rose Aebel of St. Louis, Mo., Debbie (Noel) Lenny of Memphis, Tenn., and Sandy (Carl) Schulte of Troy, Ill.; brothers, Chester Marler, Donald Marler, and Ivan Marler; a sister, Betty England; grandchildren, Bruce (Erin) Aebel, Catherine (Brett) Verona, Jessica Schmidt, Meghan Schmidt, Gillian Schmidt, Michelle (Matt) Rogers, and Brian Lenny; and great-grandchildren, Lillian Aebel, Beau Aebel, Marler Verona, and Emmy Rogers.

Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill. Mrs. Schmidt's wishes were to be cremated.
