Farris
May 7, 1943 – November 16, 2019
Donald R. Farris, 76, of Maryville, IL and formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Eden Village Care Center, Glen Carbon, IL.
Donald was a faithful member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL. He retired from St. Louis Parking Company. Donald was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan and Chicago Bears fan. He loved golfing and reading. For many years he coached the Joy Manufacturing men's slowpitch softball team in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was a great cook and loved to BBQ. After every meal he would say, "Well that's the best meal I ever had." A real joy in his life was watching his daughters play sports and even greater joy was to watch his grandkids play.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edna (nee Pilcher) Farris; and his son-in-law James Redpath.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia J. (nee Hunt) Farris whom he married September 8, 1963 in Casey, IL; daughters Dinah J. Farris of St. Louis, MO, Nichole L. Sauer of Maryville, IL and Suzie and husband Jeff Schmidt of Mt. Vernon, IL; grandchildren, Josee Redpath, Dylan Sauer, Bryson (Shelbey Oliver) Redpath, Joe, Libby and Reagan Schmidt; great-grandchild, Brinley Redpath; son-in-law, Thorsten Sauer of Detroit, MI; brother, Kent (Dorothy) Farris of Oxford, MS; and a sister, Audrey M. (Gene) Burrus of Dublin, GA; and his two pups, Teddy and Spanky.
Per Don's arrangements, his body has been donated to science.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 7th at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 9am with the mass starting as 10am.
