Obituary

Charles E. Murphree, CMSGT (retired) passed away March 15, 2011 in Virginia.

Mr. Murphree had a most admirable career serving his country in the United States Naval Reserves for four years, Korean War in the U.S. Army M.A.S.H. Unit 4077th for three years and Vietnam War in the U.S. Air Force Aero-Medical Evacuation for 30 years where he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. Following his retirement, he was a U.S. Postal employee from 1986 to 1999.

Charles Edwin Murphree was born in Lambert, Mississippi on June 25, 1933. He married Abbie (nee Bramlett) Murphree on August 7,1954 in Helena, Arkansas. She passed away April 21, 2001.

Charles was a member of Troy United Methodist Church, Troy, IL. He was a graduate of Solano College, Fairfield, California; U.S. Air Force Senior NCO Academy, and Eagle Scout 1948, Troop 20. Charles played college football for Arkansas State A & M.

In addition to his wife, Abbie, Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Glennie (nee Busby) Murphree, and a brother, Frank E. Murphree.

He is survived by his son, Charles E. (Valerie)Murphree, Jr. of Troy, IL.; daughter, Sheila M. (Tim) Schwartz of Stafford, VA; brothers, James F. (Betty Jo) Murphree of Russellville, AR. and John A. Murphree of Little Rock, AR.; sisters, Betty C. Wierman of Russellville, AR., Nancy (Frank) Rose of Russellville, AR., and Brenda J. (Tom) Tubb of Little Rock, AR.; grandchildren, T.J. Schwartz, Charles E. Murphree, III, Todd Schwartz, and Jacqueline E. Murphree.

Memorials may be made to Fisher House at Jefferson Barracks or Ministries Unlimited Troy, IL.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Laughlin - Richeson Funeral Home from 5 to 8 pm and Monday, March 21, 2011 from 9 to 10 am at Troy United Methodist Church, Troy, IL.

A funeral service will be conducted at Troy United Methodist Church on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10 am with the Rev. Dennis Price officiating.

Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
