Obituary

Charles Edward Fisher, 86, of Troy, Ill., born May 14, 1922, in Macedonia, Ill., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Leona, nee Glenn, Fisher; his sister, Ruby Taylor; a great-grandson, Bryce Wayne Crews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Surviving are his wife, Jane, nee Voelker, Jarvis Fisher; step children, John (Glynda) Jarvis and Paul (Sue) Jarvis, all of Troy, Ill., Nancy Jarvis of Bradenton, Fla., and Alan Jarvis of Collinsville, Ill.; uncle, Rev. Austin Fisher of Granite City, Ill.; his brothers, Roy (Jean) Fisher of Mt. Vernon, Ill., Virgil (Beverly) Fisher of Pekin, Ill.; and sister, Betty West of Pekin, Ill. nieces, Karen (Brian) Musser of Lafayette, Ind., and Ruth Ann (Brian) Adams of O'Fallon, Mo.; nephews, Wayne (Amy) Fisher of Wooster, Ohio, Alan (Tina) Fisher of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Don (Bev) Fisher of Pekin, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Natalie Hall, Nathan (Amie) Rowe, Amanda (Brandon) Crews, Adam and Abbie Jarvis, Nicholas Smith, John R. Jarvis and Laura (Mark) Schlemmer.
He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Gaige Alan Bailey, Paighton Jane Hall, Sierra and MacKenna Schlemmer, Blake and Bradon Rowe and Kayden Crews.

Mr. Fisher retired from Nestle Corporation in Granite City, Ill. He served in the 45th division in the army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and Edwardsville after the service.


Mr. Fisher was a former member of Rosemont and Bethel Baptist Churches, where he sang in the choir and where he met his wife, Jane, whom he married July 31, 1971. He was a member of Meadow Heights Baptist Church of Collinsville, Ill. and an emeritus member of Anderson Hospital Auxiliary, where he was a Life Line installer.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at Laughlin-Richeson Funeral Home in Troy, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Meadow Heights Baptist Church in Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Meadow Heights Baptist Church in Collinsville, Ill., with Dr. James Donahue and the Rev. Dale Clemons officiating. Interment will be in Friedens Cemetery in Troy, Ill.
